Background

The Mineral Management Service, a bureau in the U.S. Department of the Interior, manages the nation's natural gas, oil, and other mineral resources on Federal waters and lands. Collecting and tracking data on offshore drilling and production operations inspections, environmental inspections, and oil and gas meter inspections is a very paper and data intensive process.

Role of E2 Solutions

E2 Solutions must ensure an accuracy rate of 99% or higher for the inspection data used in the Mineral Management Service's system. Examples of data tracked include inspection dates, facility information, inspection hours, inspection items list, and failed inspection items. Following a streamlined process of scanning inspection reports and images, reviewing the data for accuracy, organizing the data, E2 Solutions is able to achieve the accuracy rate target on a consistent basis. The work is accomplished using various technology including Hewlett Packard scanner technology and scanning software from Ascent and Docs Fusion. The inspection data is loaded into an Oracle-base database called Technical Information Management Systems used by the Mineral Management Service for reporting purposes. Failed inspection items and reports are tracked in MS Access.
